DEVELOPMENT OF READING HABITS AMONG CHILDREN

"The greatest gift is the passion for reading.

It is cheap, it consoles, it distracts, it excites,

It gives you knowledge  of the world and

experiences of a wide kind.

It is a moral illumination."

                                    Elizabeth Hardwick

- Reading enables us to acquire knowledge to build different attitudes and life skills.

- It is a basic tool of education.

Once you get to the hook on reading, the time spent reading books will become your favorite activity.

There is a hard and fast rule to improving reading habits.

Role of Parents

Provide an inviting environment for reading. Your child read aloud, read the newspaper. Let your child see you reading and share information from your own reading with your child. Offer books as a reward for achieving. Take a book with you whenever you go out. Parents who want their children to be good readers should become readers themselves.

Role of teachers

Teachers can encourage reading habits by reading to and with them by sitting along with them in the library or suitable place. Teachers can discuss childhood experiences and provide them with new experiences. Teachers encourage the extensive reading of easy and interesting books that would create interest and improve vocabulary.

Role of Librarian:

The librarian should provide reading material according to their age, need, interest and level. The librarian should stimulate the readers to attract towards the library.
